The Show
What does it take to truly get away in North Carolina? In this podcast series, the first from Our State magazine, we travel to the state’s most remote spots: from the mountains to the ocean, deep into forests, high above the Piedmont, on to islands, and into swamps, to see what you find in hard-to-find places. We’ve also given listeners a dose of hidden history: a civil rights movement born on a golf course, the frantic search for our state’s priceless copy of the Bill of Rights, and the long-lost audiotape that revealed the origins of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “dream speech.”

What’s A Podcast?
Glad you asked! A podcast is an audio show that you can listen to on your computer, or on your smartphone. They’re called podcasts because they were originally developed to be listened to on iPods, and they’re great to listen to while you work, clean the house, jog, drive in your car, or relax at home. For season three of Away Message, we’re releasing a new episode every few weeks or so throughout the spring and summer. You can listen here or, if you prefer, you can subscribe to this podcast by using one of the services listed above, including iTunes, Google Play, SoundCloud, and Stitcher, and have new episodes downloaded to your phone automatically.
If you’re having any problems or any questions about how to listen, or have any feedback, email us at podcast@ourstate.com. We’d love to talk to you.
