Forsyth County is part of the Winston-Salem, NC, Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Greensboro –Winston-Salem– High Point, NC, Combined Statistical Area. Portions of Forsyth County are in the Yadkin Valley wine region. The county was formed in 1849 from Stokes County.

The seven-member Board of Commissioners is the governing body of Forsyth County. Major responsibilities include adopting the annual County budget, setting the County property tax rate, establishing County policies and acting on zoning and other land use matters.
