Humboldt resurrected the use of the word cosmos from the ancient Greek and assigned it to his multivolume treatise, Kosmos, in which he sought to unify diverse branches of scientific knowledge and culture.

Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) was a nature researcher and explorer, universal genius and cosmopolitan, scientist and patron. His lengthy Latin American journey from 1799 to 1804 was celebrated as the second scientific discovery of South America.

As the third polytechnic in the state and first in Northern California, we emphasize STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) and have a strong foundation in liberal arts. Humboldt offers a hands-on, impactful education in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
