The Washington State Department of Health recently launched the Healthcare Enforcement and Licensing Management System (HELMS), a new licensing system for all healthcare professionals and facilities. HELMS brings applications and credentialing online through a modern, self-service user portal.

The instructions below will guide you through the steps to access HELMS through SAW. These steps are required for new applicants and licensees wishing to renew their credentials online.
To access HELMS, use your Secure Access Washington (SAW) account and add the “Health Professional and Facility Licensing (HELMS)” service button under services from the Department of Health.
The Healthcare Enforcement and Licensing Management System (HELMS) was developed to create efficiencies, improve user experience, streamline processing, strengthen data access, and reduce paper-based activities.
To access HELMS, use your Secure Access Washington (SAW) account and add the “Health Professional and Facility Licensing (HELMS)” service. This service will prompt you to create a HELMS account by matching your information to existing licensing information or create a new account for new applicants.
If you have held, currently hold, or have ever applied for a healthcare credential in Washington state, you will need to locate your account within HELMS to link these credentials to your account.
