IHSS is a statewide Medi-Cal benefit, administered by each county under the direction of the California Department of Social Services. It provides those with limited income who are disabled, blind or over the age of 65 with in–home care services to help them remain safely at home.

In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) provide homemaker and personal care assistance for eligible individuals who need help in the home to remain independent.

The purpose of the IHSS program is to provide supportive services to persons who are aged, blind, or disabled, and who are limited in their ability to care for themselves and cannot live at home safely without assistance.

To receive IHSS you must be: 65 years old or older, blind, or disabled as defined by Social Security Administration. Disabled children are also potentially eligible for services. If your income is too high you may still be eligible by paying a share of cost. These web pages are general descriptions of the process.
