In a news release from the FCEDC on its website, the corporation said it received word from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company regarding the “likely closure” of the Fayetteville Consumer Tire Plant by the end of next year.
Fayetteville is the seat of Cumberland county in south-central North Carolina. It lies on the Cape Fear River, about 70 miles (113 km) south of Raleigh. The two original settlements of Cambellton and Cross Creek united in 1778 and were incorporated and renamed for the marquis de Lafayette in 1783.
