The History The Village of Pender was founded in 1885 by W.E. Peebles. The Village was originally a part of Dakota County until the organization of Thurston County. Then it became the first town in the new county and still serves as the county seat, today.

Pender County, situated in the Coastal Plains region of North Carolina, boasts picturesque streams, brooks, natural lakes, and ponds, enhancing its rural allure.

European-American settlers founded the village in April 1885, naming it in honor of the Scottish politician and businessman Sir John Pender, a pioneer of the Transatlantic Cable. He founded what is now Cable & Wireless Worldwide, and was a director of the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railway. [7]
