Established in 1951, the department has grown from its initial staffing of three full-time and one part-time officer to a dedicated team under the leadership of Chief of Police David W. Duffy, who brings extensive law enforcement experience from Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

The Frederick City Police Department (FPD) is a law enforcement organization that provides police services to the city of Frederick, Maryland, the second-largest city in that state.
