The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office has purchased property that will become the future home of the VPSO Law Enforcement Complex.

The VPSO Division administers state grants to ten regional organizations, which recruit, train, employ, and supervise VPSOs in communities throughout their regions. These communities are often accessible only by small plane or boat.
The Village Public Safety Officer (VPSO) program provides rural Alaskan communities with public safety support services. In communities associated with the program, citizens receive immediate response to emergencieswithout delays caused by weather or distance.
Through this program, AVCP recruits, trains, and employs. VPSO’s are the first responders of rural Alaska. As dedicated public safety professionals, they protect their communities by providing law enforcement.
Tlingit & Haida administers the VPSO program for Southeast Alaska and is currently the only Tribe in the state operating the program. The program serves several Southeast communities, including Angoon, Coffman Cove, Hydaburg, Kake, Kasaan, Pelican, Saxman and Thorne Bay.
