It’s a Golden Age for Asian-Style Afternoon Tea in the Bay Area

The term herbal tea refers to drinks not made from Camellia sinensis. They are the infusions of fruit, leaves, or other plant parts, such as steeps of rosehip, chamomile, or rooibos. These may be called tisanes or herbal infusions to prevent confusion with tea made from the tea plant.

Tea, beverage produced by seeping in freshly boiled water the young leaves and leaf buds of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis. Two main varieties are used, the China plant (C. sinensis variety sinensis) and the Assam plant (C. sinensis variety assamica).

What is tea? All varieties of tea are made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. To simplify and categorize, we often refer to the 6 types of tea which includes black tea, green tea, wulong (oolong) tea, white tea, puer (pu-erh) tea, and dark tea.
