The northern pike (Esox lucius), also known as pickerel, jack, northern or simply pike, is a species of carnivorous fish of the genus Esox (pikes). It is commonly found in fresh waters of the Northern Hemisphere (i.e. it has a holarctic distribution). Pike can grow to a relatively large size.

The Northern Pike boasts one of the widest distributions of any freshwater fish in the world. Its range spans across North America, Europe, and Asia, primarily in the northern temperate and subarctic regions.

A popular sport and food fish, Northern Pike are found throughout the upper mid-western states, Canadian provinces, and much of Alaska naturally. If you catch a Northern Pike, you’ll want to keep in mind that not just the inside of the mouth is toothy, but also the inside of the gills.
